Jesus’ ministry, as it alters “life as usual,” runs afoul of other ways of understanding life and faith. So a series of stories are presented that demonstrate the conflict between Jesus’ vision of God’s rule and alternate visions of life. At the heart of this conflict is understanding of God’s law. Does it honor God’s law to keep stickling little details or to work toward the large purpose and aim of God’s law?
