Twenty five years ago in the month of August Dr. Robert and Doris Clark and teenage children Kendra and Robert Jr., went out from this congregation to become the founding missionaries of a healthcare ministry in Catacamas, Honduras. It seemed fitting that the Mission Predisan Board of Directors choose to celebrate their fall meeting in Atlanta and kick off the 25th Anniversary. On Saturday, members from Oklahoma, California, Texas, Missouri, Tennessee, and metropolitan Atlanta met together and worked through a full agenda with Executive Director Dr. Amanda Madrid who had arrived from Honduras. The members are Christian men and women who have given time, talent and resources over the years. Board members Joe Glenn, Ralph McCluggage, Sabrina Macdonald, as well as accountant Sharon Kemp are a part of the Northlake Church.
Dr. Madrid’s report included updates on the new spiritual outreach in Catacamas through the introduction of “Celebrate Recovery” groups, a faith based recovery program widely used among churches in the USA. She also spoke of the growing challenges for youth because of limited opportunities and the enticing influence of drug dealers. She made a plea for the need to focus more resources on programs for youth that would offer alternative social activities, reinforce core values, and inspire young people to choose to go against the current. This is a social, spiritual, and health issue that requires God’s wisdom and guidance as strategies are developed.
The recently published “Predisan 2010 Annual Report” was distributed to board members, and copies are currently being mailed to donors.
