On Monday nights during the summer Northlake is hosting about 70 refugee youth on our soccer fields. With the help of some outstanding community volunteers, and the Providence High School boys and girls soccer teams, kids have a place to play and good coaching. Starting at 6PM, the Northlake fields burst forth with life as boys and girls begin to play. Sprinting, punting, passing. All with a smile. Life has been hard for our new friends. All have lost a home and many have experienced first hand the horror of violence and the hardships of poverty, but fear and hurt seem to go away when there is a ball at their feet. Freedom is found on our lawn, and hope grows with each goal scored. I hope you might join us sometime on a Monday night. Kick the ball around or be a cheerleader. Either way there’s always watermelon at the end!
