Matthew 6.19-24
“Stop collecting treasures for your own benefit on earth, where moth and rust eat them and where thieves break in and steal them. Instead, collect treasures for yourselves in heaven, where moth and rust don’t eat them and where thieves don’t break in and steal them. Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
The eye is the lamp of the body. Therefore, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how terrible that darkness will be! No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be loyal to the one and have contempt for the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.
(The beautiful prayer pictured was written by one of Northlake’s youth, Eh Ler Chrit)
Father in Heaven, may your name be kept holy. May it be praised on Earth, above and beyond. You are the reason our days are filled with light and our nights are filled with peace. Words are not enough, not even the Universe is enough to thank you for your blessings. You never fail to shower us with love and forgiveness. Each and everyday, our sins are washed away because you remember us. You love us and keep us save. But Lord, our greed, what has become of the world? What is becoming of your beautiful creations? The green planet Earth, now dark and gloomy. Who runs the world? Selfish beings. Lord, save us from the wilderness, a place far from the reach of your kingdom. Keep us away from the Devil’s deep cave of temptation. The cries of sinners, their own stubbornness causing them to tune out Your Words. Their echoes of pain, for they failed to follow through with your teachings, piercing away into the night. Guard our hearts from Satan’s luring. Gold, it has no meaning. It is nothing but a material that keeps us away from your temple. Rich, a useless title given to wrongdoers to climb up the ladder. The ladder of fame, fortune, and worst of all, society. It does no good, but cause harm and destruction amongst your people. Blindsided and addicted, your people are selflessly freeing themselves away from your teachings. Let us come home to you. Bless our minds, cleanse our hearts, give us the strength to drink Holy Water. Keep us on the path to life in Heaven, eternity. Evil deeds, hatred, and war. All because money. But money, it cannot and will never buy us true happiness. Only you, our Savior, posses the ultimate power to kill our senses of selfishness away. Forgive us for we sin and do you wrong. May your Kingdom come and will be done. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. In your name I pray, Amen.
