BIBLE STORY: Jesus Uses a Story About Seed (Mark 4:26-29)

ACTIVITY: Plant a Seed

We’re going to be like the man in our bible story and plant a seed! You can plant your seed in a pot, a cup, or the ground. After you plant the seed in the soil, you can say the prayer below while you water your seed. You could also say a prayer of your own.

“Blessed are you, O Lord God, King of the Universe, for you give us food to sustain our lives and make our hearts glad; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.”

*What makes this seed grow?

*How is this seed like our faith in Jesus?

*We can help seeds grow by watering them and making sure they have sun. If faith is like a seed, how can we help faith grow?

*God gives this seed what it needs to grow. What does God give you to help you grow and to help your faith grow?

CRAFT: Coffee Filter Earth

Color with blue and green markers on a coffee filter. Then set it outside in the rain or pour water over it. The colors will run together, and you will have created a beautiful Earth!

*Remember, God cares for His creation (and that means YOU too)!*

Craft Time!

SONG: “Fruits of the Spirit”

Some seeds grow into plants that produce lots of good fruit. This is kind of like our faith. When we have faith, we grow and produce good things too: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These are the Fruits of the Spirit!

FAMILY MISSION: Share Fruit Snacks with Your Neighbor

Choose someone (Neighbor doesn’t just mean the people you live next to!)- you can look in the church directory, look around your neighborhood, or your family, but challenge yourself to go to someone you might not normally encourage in this way. Plan ahead or do a “front yard pop-in” and encourage someone by sharing a snack! (safely distanced, of course!)

Suggestions: Write a verse from our story or draw a picture and attach it to the fruit snacks. Your neighbor will get a snack and an encouraging verse or picture!
