Corporate Spirituality

“Our whole lives are worship.”
“Being a Christian is not just about going to church on Sunday morning.”

Have you heard these statements before?  I know I have.  I have even said them myself.  Though they deserve our wholehearted acceptance, I have heard them used to diminish the value of the gathered community worshiping together.  Though they are helpful in challenging us not to divorce “church-going” from living daily for Christ, we must guard against seeing the Gathering of the Resurrection People on the Resurrection Day as significant (or insignificant) as a Tuesday meeting.

A new 5-week series for Preaching and Adult Formation Classes begins on June 5th.  The aim is to deepen both our understanding of and practice of the corporate spiritual disciplines like Communion, prayer, and singing.

In Galatians 4:19 Paul said that he was “in the pains of child birth until Christ is formed in you.”  The “you” there is plural.  Paul’s deepest desire was for the image of Christ to be formed in this church.  This summer series will ask how we can more deliberately do that.
